One of the more gorgeous historic attractions in New Orleans is the place where the first Spanish Council, or Cabildo, met. The Cabildo, a structure where the Spanish rulers group during their supremacy in the late 1700’s, has a characteristically Spanish colonial architecture. The premiere building in the past of New Orleans, it’s the location where the transfer of the Louisiana territory to the Americans took place in 1803 in an area overlooking the town square. The Cabildo New Orleans, located in the French Quarter, later became an assembly place for the many altering city councils and finally the seat of the Louisiana Supreme Court. In 1911 it becomes the home of the Louisiana State Museum, usually referred to as the Cabildo Museum.
